Being aware of the growing interest shown in rural Georgia we decided to dedicate this issue to rural tourism which is becoming an important feature in the country’s economy.

 

Georgia has always been known as a country with a highly developed agriculture. After the hard and turbulent 90s its agriculture has started thriving again and the countryside life has become more attractive not only for Georgians but the country’s guests as well.

 

As befits any country with a historic past rural Georgia has also a lot of history and preserves its customs and traditions that have existed for centuries reflecting the country’s development from ancient times even better than in urban areas.

 

Famous for its picturesque beauty Georgian countryside inspired many famous Georgian painters and poets to create their wonderful works of art and gave the country many talented people in different walks of life.

 

There are many surprises waiting for you as you travel in rural Georgia which is very rich in things to see and do with its kind hospitable and philosophically wise people who you will be fortunate to meet there.

კავკასიაში ტურიზმის საერთაშორისო ცენტრი, არასამთავრობო ორგანიზაცია 2007 წლის აგვისტოდან არის სასოფლო ტურიზმის საერთაშორისო ასოციაციის (www.ruraltourisminternational.org) სერთიფიცირებული წევრი (ნიდერლანდები. ამსტერდამი) და სამ წელიწადში ერთხელ მონაწილეობს გენერალურ ასამბლეაში. ამჯერად იგი ტარდება ირლანდიაში (25-28 მაისი, 2010).

2007 წლიდან იგი არის ნიუპორტი (დიდი ბრიტანეთი) - ქუთაისის საერთაშორისო ასოციაციის წევრი www.knia.ge. მარინა მეტრეველი, ორგანიზაციის დირექტორი და სასოფლო ტურიზმის ექსპერტი, ამ ასოციაციის ტურიზმთან დაკავშირებული საქმიანობის კოორდინატორია.

ჩვენი არასამთავრობო ორგანიზაციის საქმიანობა დაარსების დღიდან (მარტი 2007) ფოკუსირებულია საქართველოსა და სამხრეთ კავკასიაში სოფლად მცხოვრებთა გათვითცნობიერებაზე სტუმართმოყვარეობის თანამედროვე სტანდარტებთან მიმართებაში (ევროკავშირის ქვეყნებში 2006 წლიდან წარმატებით მოქმედი „ლეონარდო“ პროექტის მიხედვით)

პროექტი ითვალისწინებს ოჯახებისა და ფერმერების ნებაყოფლობით ჩართვას სასოფლო ტურიზმში. ძირითად საქმიანობასთან ერთად ისინი, სურვილის შემთხვევაში, გაივლიან სავალდებულო ტრენინგებს და ერთვებიან ამ მეტად საინტერესო ბიზნესში. ბენეფიციარები ალტერნატიულ შემოსავალთან ერთად ხდებიან ინტეგრირებული გარე სამყაროსთან, ამყარებენ ოჯახთა შორის მეგობორბას. ამავდროულად ხდება კულტურების გაცვლა და ა.შ.

სასოფლო ტურიზმში ჩართულობა დიდად უწყობს ხელს არალეგალური მიგრაციის შემცირებას და ოჯახებიდან მოუწყვეტლივ ქალბატონების დასაქმებას.

მოთხოვნის საფუძველზე ორგანიზაციას შეუძლია უზრუნველყოს რეგიონი/სოფელი გერმანიიდან მოვლინებულ ამა თუ იმ დარგის მაღალი კვალიფიკაციის ექსპერტებით, რომელთა სრული დაფინანსება ორგანიზაცია SES www.ses-bonn.de მიერ ხდება.

რა თქმა უნდა, სწავლების კურსი შეხამებულია საქართველოს ტრადიციებთან, სოფლის მეურნეობის სპეციფიკური დარგების განვითარებასა და ეთნიკურ კუთვნილებებთან.

კურსის პარალელურად ხდება ინგლისური ენის საბაზისო ლექსიკის გაცნობა უცხოელ სტუმართან მარტივ და სავალდებულო საკითხებზე საკომუნიკაციოდ.

ტრენინგები, მოთხოვნებიდან გამომდინარე, ადგილზევე იმართება ქართულ და რუსულ ენებზე.

ჩვენი ორგანიზაცია იწყებს მსურველ ოჯახთა მონაცემების ბაზის განთავსებას ვებგვერდზე www.icct.ge, შექმნის ქსელს მასპიმძელსა და სასოფლო ტურიზმის მიმდევართა შორის. ახლო პერპსექტივაში კი შესაძლოა თავად ოჯახებსა და ფერმებს ჰქონდეთ დამოუკიდებელი ვებგვერდი, რათა პირდაპირი კავშირი დაამყარონ მოსალოდნელ სტუმებთან.

2007-2009 წლებში ორგანიზაციამ ჩაატარა ტრენინგები ზემო რაჭაში, ზემო სვანეთში, თუშეთსა და კახეთში.

WVI, Georgia მხარდაჭერით გამოიცა სპეციალური ბროშურა „საქართველოში სასოფლო ტურიზმის თანამედროვე საერთაშორისო სტანდარტების დამკვიდრებისათვის.“

მონაწილეებისათვის ტრენინგები და სერტიფიკატები უფასოა. ტრენინგების დაფინანსება ხდება საერთაშორისო ორგანიზაციების პროექტების ფორმატში ან ადგილობრივი მუნიციპალიტეტების მიერ მათივე ინიციატივის საფუძველზე.

ამჟამად ორგანიზაცია არის ორი მნიშვნელოვანი პროექტში ჩართვისათვის განაცხადის პარტნიორი:

1. შავი ზღვის აუზის ქვეყნების პარტნიორობა უკეთესი მერმისისათვის (2 წელი, აპლიკანტი ბულგარეთი)

2. აღმოსავლეთ ევროპის ქვეყნებისადმი (მათ შორის საქართველოს) დასავლეთის მხრიდან დახმარება მომავალში ინვესტირების თვალსაზრისით მცირე და საშუალო ბიზნესის გასანვითარებლად (3 წელი, აპლიკანტი იტალია)

ასევე გვაქვს პარტნიორობის შემოთავაზება გარემოს დაცვის დაცული ტერიტორიების სააგენტოსაგან ერთ-ერთ პროექტში მონაწილეობისათვის. დიდი სურვილი გვაქვს ვითანამშრომლოთ ყველა ორგანიზაციასთან, კავშირებთან, სახელისუფლებო თუ სხვა პოლიტიკურ პარტიებთან, რომლებსაც აინტერესებთ სოფლის განვითარების საკითხები და მუშაობენ ამ მიმართულებით.

Sustainable Rural Tourism involves people from remote rural places (mountain areas) into active style of life and integrates them in outer world.

Sustainable Rural Tourism involves rural population in active style of life.

Tourism is of growing importance for Georgia’s rural areas as it contributes to alternative income for local communities and supports the conservation of nature and cultural heritage. Rural Tourism businesses are mostly managed by small and micro family enterprises, often on a part time basis. In order to achieve long term business success and economic benefits from tourism, training and education have become very important for these target groups.

The strengths of tourism in Georgia are the geographical diversity of the country, the picturesque environment and culture, cuisine and traditional sense of hospitality. Weaknesses include the lack of adequate infrastructure in many places, the lack of capacity of stakeholders to understand the needs of the tourists. Opportunities include an important untapped potential for tourism development both in cities and rural areas. Threats include the security situation (e.g. the possibility of a long protracted war with Russia).

The Ministry of Economics is the line ministry for tourism, and coordinates Government support for the sector within its State Department for Tourism and Resorts.

Rural tourism is a new concept for Georgia with isolated villages taking initiatives to establish guesthouses, and rural tracks, and related services. Support services have included capacity building of local stakeholders, including farmers and youth, networking between villages and outside partners.

International Center for Caucasus Tourism (ICCT) is a non-profit, non-government organization, founded in April, 2007 focusing on:

• Collaborative relationships and projects’ joint implementation with like-minded organizations worldwide.

• Popularization of Contemporary Standards of Hospitality among Georgia / South Caucasian population for their further involvement in the tourism industry.

• Poverty elimination through the capacity building of rural population for their further involvement in the tourism industry based upon contemporary methodology and models of country hospitality standards.

Since August 2007 ICCT is a member of Rural Tourism International – Training Network (RTI-TN) and is authorized to conduct RT training courses. See www.ruraltourisminternational.org. Since October 2007, ICCT is a Partner of Kutaisi-Newport (UK) International Association (KNIA) - See www.knia.ge. Marina Metreveli, the Director of ICCT, is also the head of the tourism department of KNIA .

In partnership with WVI, GTZ, KNIA and local governments in the target regions, ICCT has promoted Sustainable Rural Tourism as part of wider projects, devoted to agricultural aid and development/poverty alleviation. Activities included trainings, seminars, conferences, exhibitions, workshops, consultations and coaching sessions for the dissemination of European good practices and Contemporary Standards of Hospitality, for most concerned stakeholders in the following provinces of Georgia: Kakheti, Imereti, Adjara, Racha and Svaneti. Eighteen regional and national training seminars on tourism and poverty reduction were organized, in order to build capacities of the 1,500 participants so far.

ICCT, with WVI support has also authored and published a manual on “Rural Tourism International Contemporary Standards Establishment in Georgia”. Other achievements include the opening of Rural Tourism Resource Centers in resort village Utsera, Upper Racha and Latali, Upper Svaneti. ICCT also authored and published the following: Tourism and Poverty Alleviation: "Recommendations for Action" (2007) and "Poverty Alleviation Through Tourism: A Compilation of Good Practices" (2008)

Efforts will be made to ensure that at least 50% of women will participate in the capacity building sessions. Internally Displaced People from Abkhazia and South Ossetia will also be given priority at equal of qualifications. 10% of participants will also be invited from Armenia and Azerbaijan.

Directions of Main activities:

• Running of preliminary talks and meetings with heads of aforesaid instances aimed to familiarize them with Project substance and main points.

• Involvement groups and individuals motivated (on the basis of testing) of tour operators, hotel managers, tourism and culture experts who are eligible to contribute in Black Sea Basin countries capacity building as one of the effective way to raise awareness concerning the best practices and establish stern collaborative relations with like-minded entrepreneurs and farmers in Black Sea Basin. Tourism , in general, and particularly RT are defined to perform human deeds relied upon permanent connection leading to eternal friendship and co-existence for good.

• Provision of intensive preparatory works, including RT trainings and Field Centers opening in all districts of Georgia. In the event of revealed interest ICCT could assist Colleagues in Armenia and Azerbaijan on this account . Local trainers are awarded ICTT certificates as eligible document to coach entrepreneurs and farmers , who express kind will for involving in country hospitality processes.
