ვიმედოვნებთ,
რომ ახალი წელი ყველასათვის იქნება ისეთივე ბედნიერი და ნაყოფიერი როგორი გამორჩეულიც 2016 იყო ქუთაისისა და ნიუპორტისათვის დამეგობრებისთვის.
27 წლიანი მეგობრობის აღსანიშნავი ზეიმით ჩვენ კიდევ უფრო გავამყარეთ ჩვენი მეგობრობა და ახალი და კიდევ უფრო ძლიერი შემართებით შევუდექით ჩვენი კავშირების განვითარებისა და გაძლიერების გზას.
Our best wishes to you all for 2017.
We hope the New Year be as happy and fruitful to us as 2016 which was outstanding for the twinning of Kutaisi and Newport.
Enjoying the feeling of togetherness we cemented our friendship by celebrating the 27th anniversary of the twinning and generated new and greater commitment to develop and strengthen our links.

ასული წელი კიდევ იმით იყო განსაკუთრებული,
რომ ჩვენს ძვირფას მეგობრებს,
როზმარი და დერეკ ბატლერებს დეკემბერში ქორწინების 50 წელი შეუსრულდათ.
ოქროს ქორწილი თავიანთ სახლში ოჯახის წევრებთან და მეგობრებთან ერთად აღნიშნეს.
მიუხედავად იმისა,
რომ გულითა და გონებით მათთან ვიყავით,
სამწუხაროდ,
უაღრესად დატვირთული წლის ბოლოს,
ჩვენ ვერ შევუერთდით ამ დღესასწაულს.
გვსურს,
ყველა ჩვენმა მკითხველმა იცოდეს,
რა სიამოვნება მივიღეთ როზმარისთან და დერეკთან მრავალწლიანი მეგობრობით!!!

Last year was also a very special one for our dear friends Rosemary and Derek Butler as it was the year of their 50th wedding anniversary which fell December. The golden wedding was marked at a party in their home in the presence of family and friends who joined the occasion. Regretfully at the end of a busy year we couldn’t join the celebration but our hearts and minds were with them. We would like all readers to know what pleasure we have found through many years of friendship with Rosemary and Derek. May we, once again, through the newsletter congratulate them on the golden wedding on behalf of Kutaisi Mayor and all members of the KNIA.

017 წელი ჩვეული მხიარულებით აღინიშნა ინგლისური ენის ცენტრში.
იყო ძალიან ბევრი სიცილი და სითბო.
ცენტრის მოსწავლეებმა ტრადიციულად გაგვანებივრეს მხიარული თამაშობებით,
სიმღერებით,
ცეკვებით.
ასევე ძალიან ისიამოვნეს მოწვეულმა ჩვენმა ამერიკელმა სტუმრებმა მელისა და მორგან სპარკსებმა.
ღონისძიების ამსახველი ფოტოები,

The New Year 2017 was celebrated in the ELC with traditional festivity.
There were a lot of smiling faces and warmth around.
The ELC students traditionally pampered us with cheerful games,
songs and dances.
Our American guests Melisa and Morgan Sparks also had a wonderful time.

Celebrating the Holidays in Georgia

ე და ჩემი მეუღლე ამერიკელები ვართ.
ამჟამად ვიმყოფებით ქუთაისში ერთი აკადემიური წლით.
,,ფულბრაიტის” გრანტის ფარგლებში მაქვს შესაძლებლობა ვასწავლო ინგლისური ენა აკაკი წერეთლის სახელმწიფო უნივერსიტეტში.
ჩვენ ძალიან მოხიბლულები ვართ ადგილობრივი წეს-ჩვეულებებით,
ხალხით და ქართული ღირშესანიშნაობებით.
My husband and I are Americans living in Kutaisi for the academic year,
where I am pursuing a Fulbright Grant to teach English at Akaki Tsereteli State University.
We have both thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the local customs,
people,
and sights of Georgia.
We are lucky to live in Kutaisi where we have been generously welcomed by the locals.

რდადეგების მოახლოვება ამძაფრებს ნოსტალგიას.
ახალი წლისა და შობის დღესასწაულებმა ეს გრძნობა განსაკუთრებით გაგვიმძაფრა,
რადგან ჩვენ შორს ვართ ოჯახიდან და მეგობრებიდან.
ამიტომაც ძალიან გაგვიხარდა,
როდესაც ქუთაისის ინგლისური ენის ცენტრში გამართულ საზეიმო წვეულებაზე მიგვიწვიეს.
When holidays come around they have the tendency to make you feel homesick. No longer are we participating in our holiday traditions with family and friends. Morgan and I found ourselves feeling rather homesick as Christmas and the New Year approached. So, we were delighted to be invited to the Kutaisi English Language Center’s holiday party.

საზეიმო სამოსში გამოწყობილი არაჩვეულებრივი ახალგაზრდები შემოგვეგებნენ.
მათ მიერ წარმოდგენილი ღონისძიება ძალიან საინტერესო და შემოქმედებითი იყო.
პირველად მოვისმინე სტუდენტების მიერ შესრულებული ჩემთვის მშობლიური საშობაო სიმღერები.

Upon arriving, we were greeted by excited students dressed in holiday clothing. The production put on by the students was engaging and creative. For the first time, I heard Christmas songs from home, as a group of students sang “Jingle Bells” and “Silent Night”.

შობის ღამეს ოჯახების უმრავლესობა საშობაო წირვას ესწრება.
წირვის დასრულებისას მრევლის ყველა წევრს ანთებული სანთელი უჭირავს ხელში და ერთხმად მღერის საშობაო სიმღერას ,,Silent Night’’.
ანთებული სანთელი სიმბოლურად აღნიშნავს უფლის მიერ ნათლის მოფენას დედამიწაზე,
რის შედეგადაც ადამიანებში მშვიდობამ,
იმედმა და სიყვარულმა დაისადგურა.
ეს არის ჩემთვის ყველაზე საყვარელი სადღესასწაულო ტრადიცია.
აღფრთოვანება ვერ დავმალე,
როდესაც სტუდენტებმა ეს სიმღერა შეასრულეს.
ყოველივე ამან,
თავი საკუთარ სახლში მაგრძნობინა.
ჩვენზე განსაკუთრებული,
შთაბეჭდილება მოახდინა ბავშვების მიერ გამოგონილმა თამაშებმა:
აუდიტორია ისმენდა სიმღერას ფილმებიდან და მათ საშობაო ფილმიდან ამოჭრილი კადრებიდან უნდა გამოეცნოთ ფილმის სახელწოდება.
ასევე უნდა დაესახელებინათ ამ ფილმის სახელწოდება და მონაწილეობა მიეღოთ კარაოკე ტიპის კონკურსში.
სტუდენტების რამდენიმე ჯგუფი ასრულებდა პოპ სიმღერებს და ცეკვებს,
ხოლო ერთმა ჯგუფმა წარმოგვიდგინა საშობაო სკეჩი,
რომლის მეშვეობითაც განსაკუთრფებით წარმოჩნდა მათი საზეიმო განწყობა.
In America,
most families attend a church service on Christmas Eve.
The end of the service is marked by the singing of Silent Night and with each attendee holding a lit candle in the air.
The candles symbolize bringing the light of Christ into the world through hope,
peace,
and love.
This is my favorite holiday tradition and was delighted when the students sang this song.
It made me feel at home.
We were particularly impressed by the games the students created.
The students asked people to guess a movie by hearing a song, name a Christmas movie by looking at emojis,
and partake in karaoke competition.
A couple of groups sang pop songs and performed dances,
while one group put on a skit that highlighted the spirit of giving during the holiday season.

ე და მორგანი აღფრთოვანებულები დავრჩით ცენტრის ახალგაზრდების კრეატიულობით.
განსაკუთრებული შთაბეჭდილება მოახდინა მათმა ინგლისურ ენაზე საუბრის უნარ-ჩვევებმა.
რასაკვირველია,
მათ განსხვავებული ენობრივი კომპეტენციები გააჩნდათ.
თუმცა,
თითოეული მათგანი გულწრფელად ცდილობდა ინგლისურ ენაზე კომუნიკაციას.
ცხადია,
ისინი ძალიან მოწადინებულები არიან აიმაღლონ ინგლისური ენის ცოდნა.
Morgan and I were delighted by the student’s creativity, but we were most impressed by their English speaking skills. Some students were stronger than others, but all tried to communicate solely in English.

It is very evident that the students are eager to learn and improve their English speaking skills, and that the ELC has done an excellent job teaching them. We were also able to briefly share some of our holiday customs from the United States with the students. We are thankful to be celebrating the holidays in Georgia with our new family and friends.
